The 141st Open Championship 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes came to a dramatic conclusion as Ernie Els ended ten years of heartache when he closed with a brave two-under-par 68 to claim a one shot victory over Australia’s Adam Scott.
Ernie arrived at the Clifton Arms Hotel on Sunday 15th July, enjoying time with his family and practising at the course but many experts were suggesting that his best years were behind him. We knew different… he was confident & relaxed, hinting that a victory could be in his sights, especially if the wind picked up on Sunday.
What a result! Ernie was a true gentleman throughout the week and we’re proud to have so many memories of his stay.
We couldn’t have written the script… Tony Jacklin standing on the Balcony of his room waving at Ernie on his return to us with the Claret Jug, then Mark Calcavecchia greeting him with a hug once inside…Amazing.
‘The Big Easy’, you were a pleasure to look after – Congratulations!
